Day 12-St. George Island

Last night was our first at this campsite, still at the same campground.  We will be at this site for three nights.  We were so lucky to get two extra nights on St. George.  Originally we only had two nights here, and two nights inland at a state campground in Sopchoppy.

If you look closely, you'll notice the tall dunes just beyond the trees.

Bacon, eggs, and brioche were our breakfast menu today.  After breakfast we hit the beach, bringing our beach chairs, and other gear for a relaxing morning.  Again, we had the beach to ourselves.

A great blue heron patiently waiting for the fisherman to catch something.  His patience was not rewarded.

This guy had five poles in the water, but as Joni noted, "five times zero is zero!"

I'm not working on my diet.

A Willet

No exactly a crowded parking lot.

We returned to our campsite for a late lunch break; hot dogs and Cape Cod potato chips!  We had enough sun at this point, so we just napped for the rest of the afternoon.

For dinner, we drove into Apalachicola, a 20 mile drive, and returned to one of our favorites, The Owl.

Aperol Spritzers
House salad with a creamy horseradish dressing
Jambalaya
Linguine with shrimp, mushrooms, spinach, topped with parmesan
Pecan pie with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge...as I said I am not working on my diet!

Apalachicola is filled with many old buildings which are in various stages of renovation.
These painters were still working at 7 PM.

This looks like the Alamo, but I'm sure it's on someone's renovation schedule.

  2. RIck.... just thought I'd expand your knowledge of the bird kingdom... your "pelican" is in fact a Heron... which has long legs and a narrow beek... whereas the pelican is a wonderful bird, whose beek can hold more than his bellycan.... Ogden Nash.

  3. The bird with its head in the sand is a Ruddy Turnstone, accompanied by a snowey plover. The last one is a willet. No pelicans.
